The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a new federal program designed to make dental care more accessible for Canadians who don’t have dental insurance and earn less than $90,000 per year.

This program is managed by Health Canada and administered by Sun Life. As your dental care provider, we’re here to support you—but please note that we are not involved in determining eligibility or coverage details.

Who Can Apply for the CDCP?

You may qualify for the CDCP if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • No dental insurance coverage
  • Your adjusted family net income is below $90,000
  • You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • You have filed a tax return in the previous year

How Much is Covered?

The coverage offered by the Canada Dental Care Plan depends on your family’s net income, meaning your contribution may differ from that of another family. When scheduling your appointment, don’t hesitate to ask our team about the services included under CDCP and the percentage of costs applicable to your plan.

Before booking an appointment, it’s essential to ask your dentist if they accept the CDCP, as not all dental clinics are enrolled in the program. At McLaughlin Village Dental, we do accept the Canada Dental Care Plan and would be happy to assist you.

The services covered under the CDCP include:

  • Preventive services
  • Diagnostic services
  • Restorative services
  • Endodontic services
  • Prosthodontic services
  • Periodontal services
  • Oral surgery services
  • Sedation dentistry services
Some oral health procedures may require preauthorisation. This process involves obtaining prior approval, based on the recommendation of your oral health provider, before commencing treatment to ensure it is covered under the plan. Services requiring preauthorization will be accessible starting in November 2024, and will consider an individual’s oral health history and medical conditions.

Services Covered by the CDCP

The Canada Dental Care Plan covers a percentage of the eligible costs based on your family’s net income. You may need to cover a portion of the cost, which may differ from that of another family. When booking your appointment, feel free to check with our team if the service is covered under the CDCP and how much of the cost is covered by your plan.
